As demand for PCs remains strong, leading PC makers Dell and HP post strong financial results and report growing PC sales. But persistent shortages of components hurt HP badly in the second quarter: it admitted this week that it could not meet all PC orders in Q2 due to supply constraints. Interestingly, HP says that while AMD and Intel supplied enough CPUs, makers of cheap components cannot supply enough units. Meanwhile, Dell, which makes some of the best gaming laptops and best gaming PCs thanks to its popular Alienware brand, increased PC shipments and gained some share in Q2 2021.
The WinDbg (Windows Debugger) tool has been around and helping users diagnose their BSODs and individual program crashes since the days of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2. But learning WinDbg requires climbing a learning curve, and it takes a little while to figure out how things work. Ditto for learning to drive its command-heavy interface. However, Microsoft has offered an alternate version based on UWP that is more automated and much, much easier to learn and use.
UWP WinDbg will help you with all of the different dump file types that Windows creates to capture error information, and
The market’s biggest bull predicts the S&P 500 will rally another 7%, but he warns a popular trade won’t be along for the ride.
Wells Fargo Securities’ Chris Harvey recently cut software to underweight from neutral and declared it a crowded trade. He based the decision on technicals and earnings fundamentals and high valuations.
“From a valuation point of view, you’re paying about a 75% premium to the market for software and that’s too rich,” the firm’s head of equity strategy told CNBC’s “Trading Nation” on Friday.

Magisk is one of the most powerful Android mod tools around, and a godsend to users who buy a phone without a strong custom ROM community. But ever since its creator John Wu was hired by Google itself in May, its future has been somewhat fuzzy. Earlier today Wu updated his Medium site for the Magisk project, stating that the open source tool will continue development … but with some notable changes.
The big news: Wu officially has Google’s blessing to continue managing the Magisk project. That’s a big deal, as certain elements of the program represent a possible
Weeks ahead of the official release of Windows 11, Microsoft today announced minor changes to the minimum system requirements for its new operating system. Owners of relatively recent PCs running 7th Gen Intel Core CPUs or first-generation AMD Zen CPUs who were hoping for a partial reprieve should prepare to be disappointed.
In an unsigned post on the Windows Insider blog, the company announced that it will make “a small number of additions to the compatible processor list … but otherwise will maintain the minimum system requirements as originally set.”

Windows 11 promises to refine window management, run Android apps, and to unify the look and feel of the operating system’s built-in apps after years of frustrating hodgepodge. But none of that matters if your computer can’t run the software, and Microsoft has only promised official Windows 11 support for computers released within the last three or four years. Anyone else will be able to run the operating system if they meet the performance requirements, but they’ll need to jump through the hoop of downloading an ISO file and installing the operating system manually rather than grabbing it

Right now, Rodrigo Ochigame is reading Russian science fiction, Yugoslav art history, Indian philosophy, and Afro-Caribbean political theory. They are listening to Belgian electroacoustic music, Mongolian experimental rock, and Ethiopian jazz. Occasionally, the PhD student in the Program in History, Anthropology, and Science, Technology, and Society (HASTS) even throws dice to select a new MBTA stop to explore. More often, they apply this practice on the MIT campus, randomly attending departmental seminars on topics ranging from astrophysics to macroeconomics to neurobiology.
Ochigame’s freewheeling curiosity actually stems from a deep conviction about disrupting cultural assumptions — especially their own. “That’s something
