Fortnite is coming back to iPhone and Android, but with a twist

Epic Games’ popular Fortnite hasn’t been available on iPhone and Android for over a year. The company engineered a crisis that forced Apple and Google to take action against the game. Epic then filed lawsuits against them. The verdict in the Apple trial dropped several months ago, as the judge sided with Apple on nine of the 10 counts in the trial. The legal fight isn’t over, but the initial verdict means that Fortnite won’t be available on iPhone anytime soon. It might be years before the two parties end their battle. Epic is also fighting Google in court, which

Fishing Paradiso for Android is heaven for fish lovers

Source: Odencat

I don’t know what it is about giant space whales that so deeply resonates with me, but as soon as I see one in any video game, I’m in it for the long haul. That’s how Fishing Paradiso managed to hook me, with a celestial whale informing my spirit that I’ve and gone to heaven. Great news, right? Well, heaven’s cool and all, but is it really as cool as you personally would like? Maybe there’s a way that you can mold heaven into your own perfect paradise?

The bizarre setup was interesting enough, but what ultimately reeled

VICTORY: Google Releases “disable 2g” Feature for New Android Smartphones

Last year Google quietly pushed a new feature to its Android operating system allowing users to optionally disable 2G at the modem level in their phones. This is a fantastic feature that will provide some protection from cell site simulators, an invasive police surveillance technology employed throughout the country. We applaud Google for implementing this much needed feature. Now Apple needs to implement this feature as well, for the safety of their customers.

What is 2G and why is it vulnerable?
2G is the second generation of mobile communications, created in 1991. It’s an old technology from a time when

Why is Android 12 so buggy? It’s complicated

Android 12 is one of the platform’s most ambitious updates in recent history, bringing a major design overhaul to every corner of the operating system. It has also been one of the rockiest Android OS launches in the past few years. Both Samsung and OnePlus paused the rollout of their stable Android 12-based updates amid reports of serious bugs. Google itself has addressed a laundry list of bug reports from Pixel 6 owners, just as it’s trying to convince them it’s finally figured out how to build a truly premium phone. What in the heck is going on?

The short

‘Repainter’ gives you control over Android 12 colors

Google’s Dynamic Colors in Android 12 allows the system to theme your phone and compatible apps with just your wallpaper, but controls over the system are relatively limited. Now, though, a clever app called “Repainter” will give you full control over Material You’s colors on Android 12.

By default, Android 12 on Pixel phones will pull a collection of accent colors from your wallpaper(s). Generally, you’ll get three to four options with a primary accent along with some other, muted options. These colors are usually pastel in nature, meaning they’re a bit muted. You can still create some stunning looks,

Comment: Why have some of Apple’s brightest inventors left to work with Android at Humane?

I’ve been waiting anxiously for years to get a glimpse at what the folks over at Humane have been working on. The company, founded by Apple inventors Bethany Bongiorno and Imran Chaudhri, launched in 2019 and has kept its work completely under wraps. Humane’s website has said that the mission behind the company is to build “innovative technology that feels familiar, natural, and human.” They want to build “the best human experience, ever.” That’s a tall order, and it’s been unclear what that actually meant, until now.

Background

Imran Chaudhri was at Apple from 1995 to 2016, and his name

Google fixes nightmare Android bug that stopped user from calling 911

Android’s January security patch is out, and it’s addressing one of the nastiest Android bugs to come up in some time: certain apps can stop you from contacting 911 or other worldwide emergency services numbers.

In early December, a harrowing tale popped up in the GooglePixel subreddit from a user whose Pixel 3 crashed when they needed it most: while dialing 911 for their grandmother who “appeared to be having a stroke.” The whole phone subsystem seemed to immediately crash upon calling emergency services, with user “KitchenPicture5849” saying they couldn’t get the call to connect or hang up to try
